Application Engineering Manager, Underground Drilling

The Underground Drilling Division within Sandvik Mining is a market leader in providing industry-leading drilling solutions for our customers in the underground mining and tunneling industries. We work in close co-operation with the sales areas within the Sandvik Mining Business Area, to become customer’s first choice for underground drilling solutions. We have strong customer focus and safety as core values. Our operations are located in Tampere (Finland), Lyon (France), Winnipeg (Canada), Jiading (China), and Pune (India).
We are now looking for an Application Engineering Manager to lead our product development to meet the future requirements of our customers. This position is full-time, permanent, and located in Tampere. Your mission is to lead the application engineering execution for Underground Drilling large mining and construction product range, ensuring efficient, high-quality delivery that meets customer requirements and timelines. You will drive high-quality and customer focused culture to translate business requirements set by Product line into engineering actions and ensure seamless collaboration between engineering and other functions. You will be member of R&D and Product Line management team.
Your key responsibilities
Lead the application engineering organization, including resourcing, talent development, and competence building aligned with business and customer needs
Act as an inspirational and supportive team leader for a group of Engineering Managers and demonstrate excellent leadership behaviors through Sandvik core values
Manage engineering capacity planning to deliver high-quality engineering outputs efficiently
Lead setting priorities and strategic direction for engineering function based on division strategy and requirements set by Product Line
Contribute development of new ways to become more agile and customer centric
Foster culture of innovation, high-quality and customer focus in application engineering
Ensure timely and high-quality execution of new and current product engineering according to agreed processes and governance.
Strengthen customer responsiveness by aligning engineering activities with business requirements, field feedback, and offering plans set by Product Line
Your background and what we value
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering in a relevant discipline
Several years of experience leading engineering teams and preferably in product engineering
Proven track record in delivering engineering solutions in a customer-driven, high-technology environment with the ability to manage execution, priorities, and cross-functional collaboration
Experience from leading implementation of various development projects and leading of changes
Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and engineering departments in other Underground Drilling units
Proficiency in both English and Finnish is essential for success in this role
