Embedding cybersecurity into every part of the organization
As digitalization continues to transform industries, the importance of cybersecurity has never been greater. Elvira Cedergren and Carl-Christian Rörström are cybersecurity experts at Sandvik and in this podcast they share their insights on this hot topic.
Digitalization brings both opportunities and challenges. With advancements in AI, automation, and IoT, the need to protect against cyber threats becomes increasingly critical. Cybersecurity is not just an IT issue but a business continuity and societal issue.
The potential consequences of cyber attacks are severe, including business disruptions and impacts on the supply chain. The convergence of IT and OT (operational technology) creates new risks, as operational technology often lacks the same level of cybersecurity as IT systems.
“Think of it as a house,” Elvira Cedergren says. “You have locks on the outside but within the house things aren’t really protected, for example you don’t lock in your phone. It’s a different way of working than within IT and when we open that door we open up for new threats.”
Tips for improving cybersecurity
For companies looking to improve their cybersecurity the advice is to start small, train employees and don't be afraid to ask questions of ask for help.
“One of the most important aspects of our work is building the mindset that security is part of everyone's responsibility. So even if you are a non-technical person or employee, you still need to have at least an understanding of what are the risks that my actions might lead, “ says Carl-Christian Rörström.
By empowering employees and fostering a culture of security, companies can better prepare for and respond to cyber threats.
